Keep your router and home office running

Small loads can make a modest battery useful, but connectivity has more than one link.

Quick answer: Count every box that keeps you online: modem or ONT, router, switch and access points. In our example a 12W network load plus a 45W laptop is 57W, or 228Wh over four hours before losses. If you need uninterrupted operation, check the station's transfer time or use a proper UPS.

Count the whole connection

A home network can include a modem or optical network terminal, a router, a switch and Wi-Fi access points. Keeping only one of them powered may not keep you online. Check each power supply and measure actual use where possible. Your internet provider’s network must also remain operational.

Work out your energy budget

As an illustration, a 12W network device and a laptop averaging 45W form a 57W load. Over four hours they use 228Wh before battery losses. A laptop’s adapter rating is its available power, not necessarily the laptop’s constant consumption; charging an empty laptop can draw more than light work with a full battery.

Check uninterrupted operation separately

A runtime estimate does not establish UPS compatibility. Some power stations have a brief transfer delay when utility power fails, and sensitive devices may restart. Check the exact specification and test your own equipment. If uninterrupted operation is essential, use an appropriate UPS arrangement rather than relying only on a battery’s capacity.

Take small practical steps

Reduce unnecessary display brightness and disconnect equipment you do not need. If your devices support direct USB-C power from the station, check the required power-delivery profiles and cable rating. Our calculator models AC loads; a direct DC setup needs a different efficiency assumption and measurement.

Frequently asked questions

How long can a power station keep my Wi-Fi running?

Add up the power of every network device and divide usable battery energy by that load. A 12W network setup plus a laptop averaging 45W is 57W, which uses 228Wh over four hours before battery losses.

Will my router restart when the power fails?

It might. Some power stations have a brief transfer delay and sensitive devices can reboot. Check the exact UPS specification and test your own equipment.
