How we compare products
We use manufacturer documentation for stated specifications and link to the sources. Our current comparison is a desk-researched starting set, not a hands-on test or a complete survey of the market. We do not award invented ratings, fabricate customer reviews or claim to have used products we have not tested.
Calculations you can inspect
The runtime tool publishes its formula and lets you change its assumptions. Examples are labeled as examples. They are not measured results for your appliance or a promise of battery performance.
Who builds Reserve Current
Reserve Current is written by an engineer with a background in mechanical engineering and hands-on work measuring lithium battery packs: full-discharge capacity tests and battery-management diagnostics on light electric vehicle batteries. That experience shapes the site: we separate power from energy, label every assumption and prefer a measured number over a marketing one.
Our method, step by step
- Specifications come from the manufacturer's current US product page or manual, with the link shown and the date checked.
- Derived numbers — energy per kilogram, rated lifetime throughput, runtime examples — are calculated with formulas we publish.
- Every worked example states its efficiency, reserve and idle-draw assumptions (by default 85%, 10% and 8W).
- Safety statements cite a public authority such as CPSC, CDC, FEMA or FoodSafety.gov.
- We correct errors when they are reported and update the date on the page.
Measured testing: what comes next
Our next step is hands-on measurement: usable energy delivered at the outlet compared with rated capacity, idle consumption with the inverter on, and charging losses. Until those results are published, every comparison on this site is based on manufacturer data and says so.
